Daniel and a few other members of the royal family along with Jehoiakim, king of Judah were taken to Babylon as captives in B.C. 606. In B.C. 536 after 70 years, the Jewish people were granted permission by the Persian king Cyrus to return to Jerusalem and build their Temple. Daniel died in Babylon after two more years.
